Sorby Steb Drive, 7/8 in.
Sorby Steb Drive, 7/8 in. is designed to fit seamlessly into the jaws of a chuck, eliminating the need to remove the chuck each time you want to use a drive center. This innovative tool fits neatly in most four-jaw scroll type chucks and features a spring-loaded center point combined with a ring of razor-sharp teeth. By adjusting the tailstock, you can vary the degree of "bite" while keeping the center point firmly in place. This design offers several benefits, including enhanced safety for novice turners, as the workpiece stops revolving if a dig-in occurs instead of causing kickback. For production turning, the teeth can be backed off while the point remains in place, allowing you to stop and check the workpiece without removing it from the lathe. Finished pieces and blanks can be exchanged simply by backing off the tailstock rather than starting and stopping the lathe. The size refers to the drive face diameter and comes in diameters of 1/2", 7/8", and 1-1/4". Made by Robert Sorby in England.
